Chef’s Corner Interview: Francy Akua

Do you use a cellphone to take food pics?

Yes. A normal Huawei p30 lite and 99% of the times no filter

Wow you not playing no games. You came prepared.

Lol. I take my time to arrange the food nicely. And as I said before it relaxes me, it calms me down.. Actually cooking and plating have helped me overcoming very stressful situations

How did you afford to travel to that many countries?

…I traveled alot with my dad when I was young and then on my own. Been working and living on my own since I was 21. Now I’m 50 😂

Francy also added

Would be interesting to add that I am self taught in cooking Jamaican food. Being born in Italy – cooking is in my DNA lol. I was raised by my grandparents and I everything I learned in the kitchen is thanks to my granny. I have always loved cooking even back in Italy. I fell in love with the Jamaican cuisine in March 2017 after I had ackee and saltfish with fried dumplings cooked for me by an acquaintance. Boom. This was it. My first attempt at rice and peas and curry goat was a disaster lol I had to bin everything. Now, 4 years later, I have people insisting I should start selling my food. I am stubborn, a perfectionist, very critical with myself. Hence I like to master one dish at a time.
